My New Toy for 2009….. the Canon 200 L IS f/2.0!

I’m always looking for the latest and greatest equipment I can add to our entourage of high end goodies that help us provide the style & quality of work we strive to achieve.  While it is true that “the photographer creates the image, not the equipment,” I’m a stickler for having the best for our clients and being able to shoot in all situations without limitations that equipment can sometimes create.  I’ve been eying the 200 f/2.0 for some time now, but it’s not always easy to justify paying over $5,000 for a lens.   This lens has some incredible features and image quality, but what makes it so amazing is the fact that you can shoot amazingly crisp sharp images, zoomed in with nearly no light and slow shutter speeds hand-held (due to the image stabilizer) and nail shots, otherwise not possible at such range and lighting conditions.

Despite all the going back and forth on this one, I finally pulled the trigger, and am really excited to have this lens for the upcoming 2009 wedding season and the type of images we will now be able to shoot with this puppy!  For the non-photographer blog readers, you’ll most likely think this post is silly, but I can’t wait to show you what this amazing lens can do!

Another Wedding Album…

January through March are generally a slower time of year for us and a great time for couples to start thinking (or finish thinking I suppose) about their wedding album(s) before things get busy with the new wedding season again.  Usually, our album design process takes about 2 weeks or less and what I love most about the way we work things, is that we allow our couples to both select their favorite images they wish for us to use, as well as have opportunities to give feedback for edits once they have seen the initial design.  Once the couple has approved the design, we usually have the album(s) back from the manufacturer in 30 days or so… it’s a pretty cool and easy process overall, I think.

We are working on a few different albums this week, and figured I would post one from one of our favorite couples and weddings of 2008, with Kristin & Stephen.  This is only the rough draft of the album until we await feedback from the couple themselves, but like the way it came out so far… by the way, I have to give Jess some props for this as she has been heavily involved in our album designing here at the office.  Whatever final edits we end up making, these are going to look fantastic in a luxury, Graphi-Studio album which Kristin & Stephen have selected.

Here’s a link to check it out – be sure to turn up those speakers first!

Sticky Fingers Apples – The Best Candy Apples You Can Get!

I’ll start by apologizing for being a bit behind on my normal upkeep with the blog! I took a couple weeks off to relax and enjoy the holidays and am now back in the full swing of 2009… I’ll do my best to keep up from now on :)

Today, I had the chance to shoot for good friends, John & Donna and their beautiful daughters Jordan & Karli.  John and Donna are local entrepreneurs and founders of their very successful business, Sticky Fingers Apples.  I have watched John and Donna start their business from the ground up, starting  just over a year or two ago, and now sell hundreds and hundreds of apples each month on a national level.  They have recently sold apples to major sports teams in the NFL, accept major wedding orders, and were featured in their own segment on Fox 23 News…. I’d say they are doing quite well!  Aside from making some of the most amazing candy apples and other goodies you have ever tasted, they are really such good people and awesome to do business with.  To be honest, I wish they would just find another photographer to shoot their products, since I always end up eating stuff I shouldn’t :)

John and Donna have added some new stuff to their menu, which is why we shot some updated photos for their website (and a new family portrait).  Those of you that are getting married and want to try something different, I would suggest contacting them about doing a dessert spread for you (I promise your guests will go nuts).  I asked John and Donna if they would give me my own promo code to offer our blog readers for a discount, and of course they were happy to do so!

You can check out their website at www.stickyfingersapples.com,   Here’s a few samples of what they offer and be sure to check em out for all their mouth watering options.  If you think these photos look good, you should taste the stuff – unbelievable!

P.S. For you photography fanatics, I shot these images with the new Canon 5D Mark II camera and am pretty impressed with the quality of the images this thing can throw out.

Happy New Year & Congrats to all the 2008 Couples!!!

It’s been an incredible year and 2008 will certainly go down as one to remember!  What started as a year I had no idea how to get through, ended up being one of the best wedding seasons I have ever had.  I’m thankful for all the new experiences, friendships and lessons I’ve learned this year and am excited to apply this years experiences to improve 2009 even more!  We have a lot of new things and products we’ll be working on this year and it’s always so exciting and refreshing to get a fresh start to be motivated about.  I’d like to sincerely thank all of the many blog readers, friends, family, employees and clients that have made this year so successful.  I wish you all an exciting & prosperous 2009!  Here’s a quick tribute to all the newly married couples of 2008 and hope your first holiday season together was a special one to always remember! :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
