Happy Easter! Extreme Flower Macro

Just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Easter – I thought some Easter flowers would put you all in the mood!  I’m headed out shortly to shoot an engagement session (yes, on Easter Sunday), so be sure to check back later for some samples maybe.

The 3 shots below starts from the entire bouquet to zooming in as close as I could get.  I don’t use it much, but pulled out the Canon MPE-65 extrme macro lens, which allows you to zoom in ridiculously close on things – you can even zoom in so close you could literally see insect hairs on it’s legs had I had one to pose and smile for me :)  Check out how close I was able to get on these flowers to show you some cool details!

DerOhannesian Law Firm Shoot – Albany Business Lifestyle Photography

I have to admit, this blog entry took me about double the normal time to complete since I switched to Mac from PC this week and am still doing my best to handle the whole learning curve…. hopefully, I will get the hang of it soon.  I’ve had to change my normal workflow up, which is weird, but other than a few minor things I am getting used to, I am loving the new Mac!

This morning, I had the opportunity to work on a fun project with the DerOhannesian law firm, which is located downtown Albany in the 677 Prime building.  I really enjoy working on corporate/business projects because they are something outside of the normal wedding schedule for me and gives me a bit of a new challenge (this is helpful to keep me fully motivated by mixing things up a bit).  Paul DerOhannesian and his staff were awesome to work with, and we had a lot of fun today creating some images that they will be using for some new website material as well as additional marketing campaigns.  They have a beautiful office, but we also headed up to the top of State Street to shoot near the Bar Exam Building and the Court of Appeals Building to get some “power” shots.  This was fun to shoot and while we will need some time to go through all the images from the day, I wanted to quickly show off a few of my favorites!  A huge thanks to Paul & his team for making today super easy and low stress as well as Megan Baker from Baker Public Relations for organzing today’s shoot! (I wonder who took the awesome photos on her website by the way?)

I leave you with a few samples…. our busy season is about to take off in full fashion, so be sure to check back on a regular basis as the blog entries will soon be much more frequent than these past few winter months!

Sebastien - Great. Really like the light setting for the photos in the library. What did you use?April 10, 2009 – 10:27 am

Matt Ramos - Hi, Sebastien

These were shot in manual mode and nearly straight out of the camera, minus a few quick tweaks… no lighting in the library at all. In fact, we dimmed the lights to give more of a “mood” to the shots and just shot wide open. For a few other shots, we brought a strobe & umbrella to help balance ambient with indoor, but I did not post these shots on the blog.April 10, 2009 – 10:31 am

The Power of a 1474 Megapixel Camera – Wow!

My good friend Chris sent me a link to this a few days ago and was so blown away, I just had to share it on the blog for the rest of you to check out.  I’m so fascinated with digital technology especially in the photography field, so this one is just so cool of what is even possible – unfortunately, you have to work for the government or have very high access to use this as you definitely won’t find this type of equipment available on the market anytime soon.  This truly makes you wonder who’s possibly watching you from space.

Here I was thinking that are 21 megapixel cameras were pretty much the best thing since sliced bread and wondering how much more it could be topped as technology continues to advance….. I am now realizing I was wrong by seeing this.  The photo below (photo 1) was take of Obama’s Inauguration speech in January with a staggering 1,474 megapixel camera  (that’s over 70 times what my 21 megapixel camera can do!).  What makes this so amazing, is that you can literally zoom in pretty much anywhere in the photo and see things like people’s faces or even expressions that would no way be possible with anything else – this just absolutely blows my mind, and you have to check out the link below to look around the photo on your own – it’s truly amazing what you can see by simply zooming in!

The first image is the master photo and then the others below are some samples of what I could see by zooming in – absolutely incredible what more megapixels can do!  Here is th link to check it out for yourself:

Sebastien - Hi. Saw that some times ago. I’m pretty sure it’s not a single camera (aka sensor) though, but a composite, i.e. a panorama like you can do with your 21MP to effectively get a larger image. I zoomed a few times and found some area where the seam was visible (half-a-head was just floating a few feet away from the rest of the body).April 6, 2009 – 5:55 pm

Matt Ramos - hmmm, that could be the case, but is still pretty impressive to me :)April 6, 2009 – 11:02 pm

Sarah Smith - WOW! that is insane! who makes that camera? can’t even begin to imagine how much that one costs! thanks for sharing, this is really cool :)April 7, 2009 – 4:27 am

Thea Coughlin - That is really amazing! Wow.April 8, 2009 – 7:02 pm

Gabby’s Sweet 16 – Mallozzi’s

With wedding season about 1 week away for us before it really takes off (lots of blog entries coming, trust me!), Jamaica & I got into gear by shooting a sweet 16 party for Gabby!  I had the opportunity to hang out and shoot with Gabby a couple months prior for some birthday promo shots, which you can check out here.  Turning 16 is definitely a special time in someone’s life as you finding out who you are in this world, doors begin to open, and childhood begins to transition into adulthood (wow, that was deep) …. Gabby, enjoy these years before you wake up and you are in the thirties! :)

I have a few plugs I need to give to some of the fantastic professionals that helped put this event together and are always so awesome to work with.  I’ll start by mentioning Christine Wheat, who did an amazing job of planning the entire event and running the show to ensure all went smooth!  Next, I need to mention what a great job Make Me Fabulous did in making Gabby look like a rockstar for her birthday – I’m sure her friends were blown away at how incredible she looked!  Party decorations and flowers were done by the amazing floral artist herself, Kris Ann of Fleurtatious Designs, and the party would not have been the party it was without Nick rockin’ the mic from Cool Cat DJ!  An all around “dream team” of professionals helping to make this a very special day for Gabby, and think it was awesome…. a girl could only be so lucky to have such a killer party (I should have had one of these in high school, I would have been popular the rest of the way through High School, haha!)

We are still going through images from the day and look forward to putting together a killer album for Gabby to share this wonderful memory with someday.  I wanted to quickly share a few samples from the day!

P.S. Photos will be made available online for viewing & ordering for those interested, and you can pre-register your email at the link below to receive automatic notification of when images go live:

Shaker Gymnastics Weekend

For the normal readers, this blog entry will definitely be a bit different from what you are used to seeing! :)

This past weekend, Jamaica, Jessica & I did a little something different by covering the Shaker (in Latham) gymnastics meet, which hosted schools from all over the state for a 2 day event of crazy jumps, twirls, flips & balancing (I may have left something out there, but you get the idea).  Shooting an event like this is extremely challenging due to the fact that you are shooting in very low light (you are not allowed to use flash at all), but must have an extremely fast shutter speed to capture the action without it being completely blurry – definitely more challenging than shooting weddings or portraits in more of a controlled lighting situation that’s for sure!

We don’t do a ton of stuff like this, but we all had a lot of fun trying to capture the action…. I didn’t realize how much I would like shooting sports until I got to look through some of the 8,000 images we shot and see some of the funny stuff caught in mid-air that makes you go, huh?  Some of these girls had amazing talent and I was amazed to see little kids about 4 feet tall flying over uneven bars 10-12 feet in the air – insane stuff!  I get a kick out of some of the photos, so thought I would post a few quick ones that caught my eye!
