Congratulations, Elaine & Steven! Saratoga National Wedding

Saturday was a beautiful day (one of the best of the year so far), and a great day for a wedding!  Jessica & I had the pleasure of shooting the wedding of Elaine & Steven (and their million-person bridal party :) at the Saratoga National Golf Club.  This was my first time working at Saratoga National this year, and was pleasantly pleased with all the great renovations they have made over the past 6-8 months there!  Definitely a great place to check out for those of you looking at some different venus or reception places for your upcoming wedding :)

Steve & Elaine (as well as their friends and family) were great to work with and definitely made it a lot of fun for us – a huge thanks a congratulations guys!  Due to time, I had about 15 minutes only to spend with the bride and groom, however under pressure had some amazing light to work with as you will see from some of the samples below – there is nothing better than that golden hour of light!  I leave you with a few quick samples from their day below….

Congratulations, Tara & Jack!

Ok, folks…. I’m going to give you fair warning that I went a little nuts on this blog post with the photos, but hopefully you will not mind!  Jessica & I had the extreme pleasure to photograph the amazing wedding of Tara & Jack this wedding, and I seriously am blow away at how many incredible images we were able to capture from the day!  Tara & I go way back as good friends who used to work together when I was in the corporate world & before leaving to run my business fulltime.  She took a big promotion to Arizona a few years ago, and I was super excited to get a call from her to shoot her wedding last year.  I’ve photographed hundreds and hundreds of weddings, but cannot say I have ever photographed a couple so photogenic (I’m still trying to figure out who looked better, Tara or Jack – lol).

I’m used to shooting weddings at these amazing venues and to be honest, I was slightly nervous when I realized I didn’t have any exquisite reception hall or architecture to work with on this one, but rather an empty field (that they used to park the cars of 240 guests I might add).  Sometimes simple is better – we found an open spot in the middle of nowhere with some tall grass and a nice big oak tree to work with, which made for some great photo opportunities.  I’ve got dozens more weddings to shoot this year, but I’ve got a hunch that this will go down as one of the best of the year.

For a day that was supposed to have thunderstorms, it was an all around incredible day and lots of fun to shoot…. Jack & Tara were so easy to work with, it was unbelievable – they are so good looking, I shot most of the images with my eyes closed and both hands tied behind my back – I wish they were all that easy!  Later in the day, I spotted this cool car parked in the lot and dared to ask who’s it was and to see if we could possibly use it for some photos with the bride and groom…. my ignorance paid off big in the image department as the car shots are by far some of my favorite of the entire wedding – a huge thanks to the owner (Tara’s cousin) for allowing us to use it.  For those interested, you can pre-register your email at the link below to receive automatic notification of when images go live in about 30 days:

A huge thanks and congratulations to Tara & Jack as well as their friends and family for allowing us to hang out (and make you go in the weeds against your will, etc)  I leave you with about 20-25 of my favorite images below!

P.S. huge props to Chris Hollister of Cool Cat DJ for doing an amazing job, playing great music and making us all laugh – highly recommended!

I broke my flash on accident just before the reception so shot everything in natural light – it worked out :)

I don’t know what I like better on this shot – Tara’s emotion or Jack quietly staring down his wife’s reactions to a great speech…

Shan - They look so happy on their wedding day! You are right they are a very cute couple. Love that you broke your flash…only kidding but the natural light photos look great. What fun to photograph a friend and get great photos for a wonderful wedding day for them.May 25, 2009 – 12:50 am

Tara Ketcham - Matt….you are so talented these are incredible! We are off to St. Lucia. Can’t wait to check to see what you have up when we get back! Thank you again for everything! Tara & JackMay 25, 2009 – 9:14 am

chris - GREAT JOB Matt & Jess, this will be a hard wedding to beat, amazing couple, great party and a picture perfect day. You guys nailed it! I wan to see more photos.May 25, 2009 – 10:53 am

Frank DiMeo - Hey Matt the new blog is looking great!

I love the last shot with them driving away! It is one of, if not the best of those type of images I have seen. But the shot of them in the field after you did some weed-wacking with your shoe is butter man. That 200 f/2 is definitely showing that it is gold there. Overall great stuff as usual!May 25, 2009 – 7:03 pm

Congratulations, Maria & Reza! Rochester Wedding (George Eastman House)

After a fun night with Colleen & Brian in Saratoga Springs, Jessica and I headed to Rochester on a fun overnight trip & wedding with Maria & Reza.  It’s always fun to get outside of my normal shooting stomping grounds, and this was especially fun since it was not only in a great location, but a beautiful Greek wedding!  I loved all the different Greek wedding cultures and especially the amazing colors that a Greek church ceremony offeres in comparison to the norm (hopefully, I didn’t offend my Catholic friends, haha).  After a beautiful ceremony, we headed to an incredible location to shoot some of the portaits together at the George Eastman House – wow!  I need to probably brush up on my research, but George Eastman was one of the original founders of Kodak, conincidentally enough, so it was pretty cool to shoot on a home that belonged to him – it’s quite a place as you will see below!

Maria & Reza (along with their fun bridal party) were great to work with and would like to wish them all the best in their new marriage together.  For thost interested, you can pre-register your email to receive notification of when images go live for online viewing & ordering (approximately 30 days) at the link below.  I’m doing my best to keep up with blog entrees, but am a bit behind…. here are a few samples from the day I wanted to share!

P.S. I want to gives some props to Vasili of Vasilis World Video for being great to work with and doing an amazing job.  For those of you looking for an amazing videographer, you may want to check this guy out and the samples on his website!

Congratulations Colleen & Brian! Canfield Casino Wedding

Wow – two amazing weddings this week, and the first is that of good friend, Colleen & Brian!  Colleen, her brother & sister have all gotten married over the last year, and we have had the pleasure to shoot all three weddings…. I can’t tell you how much I love this family, and am saddened that there are no more upcoming weddings to photograph with them to be honest.  With this last wedding I not only had the challenge of trying to make the wedding photographs unique compared to the other 2, but I’m also going up against the fact that the wedding before (and blog entry) was also shot at the Canfield Casino, which gave me a bit of a challenge for this blog entry.

It’s been great getting to know Colleen & Brian (as well as the entire family), and they truly are such an amazing couple – I mean that too!  It was an incredible day with great company, beautiful weather, a beautiful church, and a reception at the Canfield Casino that I’m sure dropped jaws all around the room.  I say it time and time again, but Classe Catering is amazing and did such a great job with the food, service and the whole shebang – I love working with them.  I would also like to give props to DJ extradonaire, Paul Malo, who always is such a pleasure to work with and rocks the house without fail every single time!

I’m so pleased with the images we were able to capture together for this wedding, and believe me, I could have posted them!  I wanted to share a few of my favorite from the day so that Colleen & Brian (and family and friends) can check them out.  Colleen & Brian are currently spending their first week of marriage in Hawaii, however I”m sure they would LOVE to hear your comments below so make sure you leave them some love!  For those interested, you can pre-register your email at the link below to receiving notification of online viewing & ordering which will be live in about 30 days.  Congrats to Colleen & Brian and thank you so much for allow us to take part in such a special event and overall amazing day! :)
